Minne-so-tah Grab Bag from St. Anthony Main

2 Jun

We moved last week and my head is still in disarray, so thinking one cohesive thought is far from simple right now. Here’s a mixed bag from Gourmet Glee today:

Writing this from Vic’s on St. Anthony Main, a nice cobble-stone drive along the Mississippi River and across from Minneapolis. I’m poaching their WiFi and luckily fell upon their awesome and extremely reasonable wine list. Colores Del Sol Malbec for $7.00 (pretty much what you purchase it for in the liquor store). And Minnesota is a Cork-And-Carry state. Meaning I can buy this bottle just for myself and not have to guzzle it down in one sitting.

I also appreciate the service at Vic’s … where you’ll hear the server say “that outfit looks really cute on you” and he’s a guy saying this to a gal. I also overhead “do you like it Minnesota spicy, or spicy spicy?”

Hot Dish Here I Come

20 May

I’m moving back to the homeland where SPAM was born and hot dish reigns: MINNESOTA. It’s also home to forward-thinking chefs and farm-to-table restaurants I’m dying to try. Since I’ve been out of the loop for four years I’m asking you to help me out.

I’m putting together a Dining To-Do List. Where should I go in the Twin Cities? What new dishes are a must? Who’s really pushing the limits in the kitchen?

Already on my list:

  • The NEW Nook
  • Barrio
  • 112 Eatery
  • Patriot’s Tavern (Stillwater)

Suggestions and comments are encouraged! Leave me a note and I’ll be sure to give you (and your blog, if it applies) a nice shout-out!

American Craft Beer Week in Denver

10 May

A fellow craft beer blogger, PJ Hoberman of the “Off the Wagon,” did my job for me this week. He’s rockin’ it with the most comprehensive American Craft Beer Week list of events happening here in Denver and also our sister cities, Boulder and Fort Collins. Check out his list by visiting denveroffthewagon.com.

I’m hoping to grab a taste of the Funky Cougar – a first-time-ever  tap at the Bull & Bush. It’s a sour beer aged in a Folk Machine wine barrel.  (4700 Cherry Creek South, Denver)

If you haven’t gone yet, stop by Strange Brewing Co. for a flight. Throughout the week Drew from Hops & Pie (a proud supporter of this blog and Ladies of Craft Beer) will be grilling pizza on site. (1330 Zuni, Unit M, Denver)

It also just so happens that we’re throwing a lil’ birthday gathering/moving to the Midwest party on one of the last days of ACBW at one of Denver’s coveted beer bars: Falling Rock Tap House. Ne’er a Coors Light tap can be seen–with more than 60 taps from amazing craft brewers nationwide. Check it out and support your local brewery May 16-22.
